5. Hallmarking and purity representations

Bureau of Indian Standards information explains that hallmarking is the official determination and recording of the proportionate precious-metal content in an article and that both gold and silver fall within India’s hallmarking system. BIS currently recognises multiple silver fineness grades, including 925.

Accordingly:

Customers should not interpret a silver colour or oxidised finish as a BIS hallmark.
A product should not be treated as hallmarked unless the product page and invoice expressly identify it as such.
